The Viewpoint Hub
Partly group partly individual project about developing a solution for Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam which will reduce the time travelers spend in Schiphol Plaza, the area they encounter when transferring to another type of transportation just before leaving the airport.
The group part of the project included studies within ergonomics, culture and technological factors and the individual part was about developing and testing a concept so that I in the end could advise the client on how to proceed with it in the future.
The Viewpoint Hub is a digital information desk with four touch screens where travelers are supported in the process of transferring to their final destination. The meaning is that it supports travelers to stay efficient like a personal trainer would support you to reach your goal. It will be used by first time visitors of Schiphol or by other travelers who are not familiar with the area or transport system.
The traveler can interact either by typing on the touch keyboard or by speech recognition that lets them ask questions verbally. There are walls around each display to provide privacy and calmness. The travelers get an overview of information needed to make a decision about the next step of their transfer.
The travelers are encouraged to bring the information with them to be able to check along the way.
The main benefit for Schiphol is that travelers will spend less time at Plaza compared with today decreasing the risk of lockdown due to safety reasons. This increases the chance for Schiphol to reach their goal of being Europe’s preferred airport. For the travelers, the overall unique selling point is that they will get support to fulfil their wish of transferring efficiently.
